Lisburn Distillery 1-0 Larne
CIS Insurance Cup - Friday, 25th August, 2006
LISBURN Distillery strengthened their claim for the Group C runners-up spot with this narrow and hard fought defeat of Larne at New Grosvenor.

It was the visitors, though, who started the brighter and might have opened the scoring after just 13 minutes when Tomaz Grzgegiorczyk headed just wide from a William Wharry cross.

The Whites were handed a golden opportunity to move in front after half-an-hour. Referee Keith Halliday awarded a spot-kick for a Ross Handford foul on Andrew Waterworth only for Andy Kilmartin to hammer the ball against the bar.

Ryan Catney then came close for Distillery with a half-volley moments from the break after Francis Murphy had floated the ball over.

And it was another Murphy cross that led to the match winner on 69 minutes when he found John Martin unmarked six yards from goal. From there the outcome was never in doubt.

Larne fought back gamely with Lewis Hamlin perhaps coming closest with an 83rd minute effort which he could only direct into the welcoming arms of Philip Matthews while, in stoppage time, the same player tested the keeper again with a well taken free-kick.
