Dungannon Swifts 0-0 IBK Keflavik
UEFA Inter-Toto Cup - Saturday, 24th June, 2006
DUNGANNON Swifts made their European exit today at Windsor Park despite avoiding defeat to their Icelandic opponents after being forced to play most of the game with ten men.

Unfortunately the 4-1 deficit from the first leg proved too great an obstacle to overcome - a cause not helped by Darren Murphy's 33rd minute dismissal for stamping on Simun Samuelsson.

The visitors crafted the first opening on eight minutes when Orn Holmar Runarsson and Baldur Sigurdsson combined to allow the former a shot from distance only for keeper David Wells to guide the ball over the bar.

Five minutes later at the other David Scullion fired a cross over from the left into the path of Niall McGinn but he volleyed his back post effort onto an upright.

Aiden McVeigh almost broke the deadlock ten minutes after the interval when, from 40 yards, he spotted the keeper off his line only for his ambitious effort to drift narrowly wide of the target.

And the Swifts went close again later in the half when Terry Fitzpatrick sent in a low drive from a Scullion cross but the visiting keeper managed to snuff out the danger at the second attempt.

Keflavik almost snatched the winner right at the end, though, when a Magnus Dorsteinnson rising effort came back off the woodwork - that would have been rough justic on a hard-working Swifts side who restored considerable pride following their defeat a week earlier.
