Armagh City 0-3 Glentoran
Carnegie Premier League - Saturday, 23rd September, 2006
GLENTORAN got their Carnegie Premier League challenge off to a competent start with this defeat of Armagh City at Holm Park.

The slippery conditions underfoot made life difficult for both sides so it was therefore no surprise that the opening exchanges produced little in the way of goalscoring opportunities.

However that changed after half-an-hour when Colin Nixon broke the deadlock in favour of the visitors when he pounced to tap home the rebound from a Kyle Neill free-kick which City keeper Gavin Cushley failed to hold.

The Glens might have doubled their lead ten minutes later only for a Michael Halliday downward header to fall just the wrong side of the post.

Indeed, despite creating a number of half chances in the second period, it took the visitors until five minutes from time to stretch their lead when Chris Morgan backheeled the ball past Cushley.

Then, in the dying seconds, Halliday added a third with a 12-yard drive after Morgan had laid off a Darren Lockhart pass.
