Ballymena United 0-1 Dungannon Swifts
CIS Insurance Cup - Thursday, 23rd August, 2007
DUNGANNON Swifts revived their flagging quarter-final hopes with this defeat of Ballymena United at The Showgrounds.

The only goal of the game came just eight minutes from time when American striker Matt Walton unleashed a stunning 30-yard drive past Paul Murphy just a matter of minutes after replacing Niall McGinn.

The Sky Blues might have opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute, however, when Paul Brown directed a header goalbound but Dwayne Nelson dealt with the threat comfortably.

But it was the Swifts who looked the brighter in the opening exchanges with a Shea Campbell free-kick curling just wide followed by a Mark Magennis effort from the edge of the area.

And another Campbell set piece on 35 minutes caused Murphy a little difficulty before he eventually gathered the ball.

Not long after the restart Aidan Watson almost beat Nelson with a subtle deflection from a Garth Scates ball while substitute Stephen Lowry squandered a promising effort later in the half.

For the Swifts a 63rd minute Mark McAllister effort which ended up in the side-netting until supersub Walton popped up with that later winner.
