Lisburn Distillery 0-2 Ballymena United
Carnegie Premier League - Tuesday, 18th December, 2007
BALLYMENA United continued their recent rich run of form with victory over Lisburn Distillery in this re-arranged Carnegie Premier League game at Ballyskeagh.

The original meeting between the sides was abandoned due to a floodlight failure after 77 minutes with the Whites 2-1 in front - and for large parts of the first half it looked like they were carrying on where they'd left off.

Indeed, they might have opened the scoring after just three minutes when Paul Muir headed a Stephen Shaw throw-in towards the top corner only for United 'keeper Paul Murphy to produce a one-handed stop to meet the challenge.

Gary Browne then threatened from the edge of the area five minutes later while, on 17 minutes, Andrew Waterworth saw his close range effort denied by the 'keeper.

The best the visitors could muster was a David Cushley effort midway through the half which Philip Matthews dealt with comfortably.

The Whites came closest to breaking the first half deadlock a minute from the break when a Muir free-kick clipped the top of the bar.

The Sky Blues came storming out the blocks in the second half and duly moved in front on 50 minutes when Garth Scates found Kevin Kelbie with a ball across the box which the Scot directed past Matthews at the second attempt.

And they doubled their advantage nine minutes later after Kelbie combined with Stephen Lowry with the latter delivering the final ball for Cushley to nod beyond Matthews.

The Whites' evening got even worse on 79 minutes when Ryan McCann was dismissed by referee Arnold Hunter for foul play.
