NEWRY City moved to the top of Group D with this assured defeat of Institute at the Riverside Stadium.

The visitors broke the deadlock on 18 minutes when Richard Clarke found the net with an overhead kick after a Sean Friars left wing cross wasn't cleared.

'Stute levelled on 34 minutes through debutant David Kee who rose unchallenged to nod home a Mark Scoltock cross from the right.

Sean Friars restored City's lead on 56 minutes with an excellent left foot finish from an Ian Curran cross.

And he made sure of the points six minutes from time with a similar effort dispatched beyond the grasp of 'keeper Michael Doherty.
