Glenavon 1-3 Ballymena United
CIS Insurance Cup - Saturday, 18th August, 2007
TEN-MAN Ballymena United recovered from an early setback to emerge victorious from this entertaining affair at Mourneview Park.

Glenavon needed just five minutes to open the scoring when Lewis Hamlin slotted past Paul Murphy after Eamon Murphy slipped the ball into his path.

The Sky Blues levelled on 15 minutes when a Darren Fitzgerald effort was cleared only as far as the waiting Mark Picking at the back post.

And, 90 seconds later, they moved into the lead when an attempted Gerard McMahon charge down from an Aidan Watson ball fell for Garth Scates to rifle into the far corner from just inside the area.

The visitors were reduced to ten men on 76 minutes following the dismissal of Albert Watson as he brought down Hamlin just outside the area after both chased a long punt forward from William McFrederick.

But Ballymena responded five minutes later to extend their lead when Scates grabbed his second with a low drive from just inside the area.
