Crusaders 1-0 Portadown
CIS Insurance Cup - Saturday, 16th September, 2006
A CHRIS Morrow goal ten minutes into the second half was enough to hand Crusaders victory at Seaview, top spot in Group B and a home quarter-final with Newry City.

For Portadown results elsewhere ensured a place in the last eight despite this defeat but their punishment is a trip to The Oval in the next round.

They needed to win, though, to clinch pole position and duly started brightly with Allan Smart (twice) and Richard Clarke going close only for their efforts to prove fruitless.

Peter Kennedy was also denied not long from the interval before the Ports were reduced to ten men when keeper Michael Dougherty was dismissed after upending David Larmour just outside the area. He was replaced between the sticks by defender Keith O'Hara.

What proved to be the match winner came in the 55th minute when Morrow fired from distance under the body of the stand-in keeper into the bottom corner.

The Ports might have equalised through a Henry McStay cross which struck the crossbar while Smart's stab at converting the rebound ended up going over.

And, two minutes from time, the woodwork saved the Crues again when Barry Spence's attempted clearance from a Kennedy free-kick fortunately - for him - hit an upright.
