Armagh City 2-0 Dungannon Swifts
CIS Insurance Cup - Saturday, 16th September, 2006
ARMAGH City recorded their first victory over Dungannon Swifts for 29 years thanks to a James Slater double in this closing Group D game.

City had lost their previous five outings this season whilst Harry Fay's Swifts were hoping to top the group and avoid a quarter-final trip to Windsor Park.

And unfortunately for them former striker Slater put a spanner in the works with a goal in each half to give City a morale boosting victory ahead of next week's Carnegie Premier League kick-off.

The first half was a fairly evenly contested affair with both sides creating a number of openings before Slater popped up moments from the interval to force the ball home from six yards to give City the lead.

Dungannon thought they had levelled four minutes into the second period only for referee Alan Black to rule out a JP Gallagher goal for an infringement on keeper Gavin Cushley.

Then, on 55 minutes, Shane McCabe struck the home crossbar while Niall McGinn fired wide soon after.

However the issue was put beyond doubt 11 minutes from time when a mistake by Terry Fitzpatrick allowed Slater in to drive home his second of the day from around 12 yards.
