Ballymena United 0-3 Linfield
CIS Insurance Cup - Saturday, 15th September, 2007
LINFIELD experienced little difficulty brushing aside a lethargic Ballymena United in this Group A encounter at The Showgrounds.

They needed just ten minutes to open the scoring when Peter Thompson rose unchallenged to nod home a free header from a Damien Curran free-kick almost at the corner flag.

Number two arrived a minute from the break when a Stephen Douglas cross was headed goalward by Glenn Ferguson although Thompson appeared to get the final touch as the ball fell on the line.

The Sky Blues might have pulled one back in the opening exchanges of the second half when Albert Watson headed on a Stephen Lowry corner only for Pat McShane to clear the ball off the line.

Linfield completed the scoring six minutes after the hour when a horrendous back pass from Simon Kelly allowed substitute Tim Mouncey in to sweep the ball past Paul Murphy.
