COLERAINE squeezed past Tobermore United in this JJB Sports Irish Cup tie thanks to a solitary goal from David Patton.

He struck the winner on 54 minutes when he 'keeper Willard Moore with a low 20-yard drive after Stephen Carson had created the opening on the edge of the area.

It was no less than the Bannsiders deserved after a first half which saw them create numerous chances with Carson going closest when he headed a Trevor Hutchinson cross against a post.

Tobermore might have levelled around the hour mark when Niall Cooke released Michael Walsh only for Bannsiders 'keeper Davy O'Hare to snuff out the danger.

And two minutes from time they almost forced a replay but again O'Hare was on hand to superbly turn away a Gavin Doherty effort.
