Glenavon 1-2 Newry City
Carnegie Premier League - Saturday, 11th November, 2006
GLENAVON'S three game winning streak came to an end with this defeat to Newry City at Mourneview Park.

And chief architect behind their downfall was City striker Karl Bermingham who grabbed a goal in either half to continue Newry's steady rise up the rankings.

He opened the scoring on 22 minutes when he headed home a left-wing corner from Damien Curran after darting past four defenders to reach the ball.

Number two arrived four minutes after the hour when he met a David Ward ball to drive a 15-yard right-foot effort past Paul Rice.

To their credit Glenavon continued battling away and got some consolation three minutes into stoppage time when Gerard McMahon clinically converted a penalty awarded for a foul on Neil Gawley who himself had struck an upright only moments earlier.
