Glenavon 3-2 Dungannon Swifts
CIS Insurance Cup - Saturday, 11th August, 2007
A STEPHEN Magennis spot-kick saw Glenavon snatch all three points from this gripping encounter at Mourneview Park.

He successfully converted after dusting himself down when upended by Swifts 'keeper Dwayne Nelson as he darted into the penalty area just five minutes from time in what was a thrilling end to this Mid-Ulster derby.

The Lurgan Blues raced into a two-goal lead midway through the first half after two goals inside a minute from Colm Kearney and Ormond Okunaiya.

Kearney got the ball rolling on 34 minutes after Okunaiya had squared it to him despite being well placed himself.

'Ormo' then got his reward for that act of unselfishness moments later. A Lewis Hamlin free-kick was played forward and he calmly drew Nelson off his line before chipping the ball home.

Dungannon levelled right on the break, however, through Shea Campbell after 'keeper Tuda Murphy had failed to hold onto a Mark McConkey cross.

Glenavon were reduced to ten men on 61 minutes when Ian Wallace received his marching orders for two yellow cards in quick succession.

However they managed to defend their lead under intense pressure until the 84th minute when Duwayne McManus levelled for the visitors with a low effort from a JP Gallagher ball.

But just when it appeared a draw would be the most likely outcome upstepped Magennis to earn Colin Malone's side the victory.
