Cliftonville 2-0 Limavady United
CIS Insurance Cup - Saturday, 11th August, 2007
A CHRIS Scannell goal in each half was enough to ensure a comfortable start to Cliftonville's CIS Insurance Cup campaign.

Donning the captain's armband for the day Scannell opened the scoring after just 14 minutes with an easy tap into an unguarded net after a Kieran O'Connor pass wasn't picked up the visiting defence.

The Roesiders might have levelled on 35 minutes when Bryan Tosh dispatched a left-foot strike just wide of an upright.

After the break an Aaron Smyth cross was missed by Scannell, Mark Holland and John Martin whilst moments later at the other end Russell Porter was denied by Reds 'keeper John Connolly.

However the affair was settled on 69 minutes when Scannell grabbed his second with a flick past Glenn Millar from a Francis Murphy cross.

Limavady weren't finished, though, and almost reduced the arrears towards the end only for Joe Gray's 35-yard effort to rattle the crossbar.
