DUNGANNON Swifts began life under the leadership of Harry Fay with this CIS Insurance Cup defeat of Coleraine at The Showgrounds.

The only goal of the game came on 32 minutes when Rodney McAree - son of former Swifts supremo Joe - despatched a long range free-kick past Davy O'Hare after Aidan McVeigh had been brought down by Ryan McLaughlin.

And McAree was involved again early in the second half when he almost helped the Swifts double their advantage with a ball into the area when Niall McGinn directed goalwards only for O'Hare to spread himself to block the effort.

At the other end Dwayne Nelson was on top of his game to deny a Darren Cassidy effort and, in the closing moments, turn away a Ciaran Ferry header.

In the scramble that ensued the ball crossed the line only for referee Michael McLaughlin to rule the 'goal' out for a foul on the keeper.
