Dungannon Swifts 1-0 Ballymena United
CIS Insurance Cup - Tuesday, 9th October, 2007
DUNGANNON Swifts secured a place in the last eight of the CIS Insurance Cup with this defeat of Ballymena United at Stangmore Park.

The visitors went into the game knowing nothing less than a three goal victory would see them progress but they never came close to realising that dream.

Indeed, their task became all the more impossible on 21 minutes when defender Simon Kelly glanced an Adrian McCafferty free-kick past his own keeper whilst attempting to send the ball into touch.

It was a lead Harry Fay's side scarcely deserved based on the balance of play but despite their endeavour United failed to trouble Swifts keeper Dwayne Nelson for virtually the entire 90 minutes.

Mark McAllister and Paul Baron had second half opportunities to extend the home advantage while McCafferty struck the woodwork but, in the end, that first half own goal proved sufficient to set up a quarter-final at holders Glentoran later this month.
