Donegal Celtic 1-0 Abbey Villa
JJB Sports Irish Cup - Saturday, 9th February, 2008
A RORY Hamill winner 13 minutes from time spared Donegal Celtic's blushes in this JJB Sports Irish Cup sixth round tie at Celtic Park.

The much travelled striker notched up the all-important strike from a Noel Cardwell cross which he chested the ball down before sending a right-foot volley into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.

Indeed, it was no surprise that it was Hamill who secured a last eight berth for Paddy Kelly's side after he was involved in the lions' share of the many chances Celtic created.

He struck the bar as early as the 12th minute with a flicked header while, on 25 minutes, he beat the offside trap only for his shot to be well blocked by defender Alan Strain.

Michael McClean and Paul McVeigh also came close for Celtic before Hamill's eventual winner while he also came within a whisker afterwards of extending their advantage with one shot just over and another saved by 'keeper John Munn.

It wasn't all one-way traffic, though, with the visitors almost breaking the deadlock on 34 minutes when Glenn Culbert took the ball past McClean only to finish weakly while, ten minutes before Hamill's strike, Ryan Munn had a header cleared off the line by Stephen McAlorum.
