Coleraine 5-1 Brantwood
JJB Sports Irish Cup - Saturday, 9th February, 2008
COLERAINE avoided a potential banana skin with an emphatic victory in this sixth round JJB Sports Irish Cup tie.

Second Division visitors Brantwood began brightly and tested the home defence early on through Johnny Tomelty whose shot was headed away.

As the game wore on, though, Coleraine began to find their feet and duly edged their noses in front a minute from the break when Darren Cassidy brought the ball in from the right for Marty Hunter to score with a tidy finish.

And they doubled their advantage on 51 minutes after Stephen Carson delivered the ball from the left for Cassidy to beat a couple of defenders to slot the ball beyond David Rowan.

But Brantwood reduced the arrears within two minutes when Andy McIntyre was allowed the time and space to cut inside the home rearguard to confidently beat Davy O'Hare.

However Coleraine restored their two goal advantage on 63 minutes when the unfortunate Simon McWilliams attempted to clear a Cassidy cross only to send a looping header over his own 'keeper.

Then, on 74 minutes, David Patton added a fourth with a simple tap-in after Hunter laid the ball off inside the box.

Paddy McLaughlin completed the scoring right at the end from a Carson cross.
