Glentoran 1-3 Linfield
Setanta Sports Cup - Monday, 7th April, 2008
LINFIELD maintained their 100% start to their Setanta Sports Cup campaign with this defeat of Glentoran at The Oval.

It was the Glens who moved in front, though, after just eight minutes when Darren Boyce got on the end of a Dean Fitzgerald ball from the right to drift past Stephen Douglas and beat Alan Mannus from eight yards.

However the Blues levelled on 32 minutes through Paul McAreavey who pounced to stab home the loose ball after 'keeper Michael Dougherty fumbled an Oran Kearney cross.

And McAreavey struck again four minutes into the second half with a left-foot drive from the edge of the area after a blocked Thomas Stewart effort fell into his path.

Mark Dickson then settled the issue with 21 minutes remaining when Peter Thompson sent the ball over from the right touchline for Dickson to bring it forward to the edge of the area and give Dougherty no chance with a well executed finish.
