Linfield 1-0 Portadown
Carnegie Premier League - Saturday, 6th October, 2007
PORTADOWN slumped to their second defeat of the campaign with this reversal to champions Linfield at Windsor Park.

The Blues had the ball in the net as early as the sixth minute but Paul McAreavey's effort from a Tim Mouncey free-kick was ruled out offside.

But they did take the lead on 24 minutes with what proved to be the winner when Pat McShane played the ball through for Peter Thompson to knock home at the left post.

And McAreavey 'scored' again six minutes from the break but this time he helped an Aidan O'Kane corner with his hands and picked up a booking for his trouble.

Glenn Ferguson might have made it 2-0 early in the second when he fired just over while for the Ports both Marc McCann and Gary McCutcheon looked the most dangerous but, alas, a poor game wasn't marked by any further goals although a Thompson run down the left which saw him take the ball past a number of defenders before firing into the side-netting perhaps was worthy of a better finish.
