Sean Friars opened the scoring two minutes from the break with a well taken free-kick into the bottom left hand corner after Tony Smith was pushed just outside the area.

The visitors came close to levelling moments later, though, when Andy Crawford was denied by Robert Robinson with Ryan Campbell sending the rebound over.

Newry might have doubled their lead on 49 minutes through Richard Clarke who blazed a just past the woodwork while Smith had an effort well saved by keeper Emmett Mapp.
